Dead Sea Tourist Beaches
The Dead Sea located between Israel and Jordan. Many tourists come
to the beaches of the sea for relaxation and cure. The sea is famous for
the fact that it is the lowest region on the earth. It lies 1,310 feet
below the sea level. It is for this reason that there are huge amounts
of salt in its water. Actually, the Dead Sea is eight times saltier
than the ocean. Due to the extreme heat in the region, the freshwater evaporates
quickly, leaving behind salty deposits. Swimmers are able to float with
ease on the water surface.
The Dead Sea is also referred to in the Book of the books. There
it is known as the Salt Sea ("Yam Hamelakh"). One story in the Bible talks
about a man named Lot, whose wife was turned into a pillar of salt along
the shores of the Dead Sea. One explanation for this is the columns of
salt along the lakes shore.
Another religious artifact, the Dead Sea Scrolls, was found in caves
near the Dead Sea.
